Marco Tabone

My name is Marco Tabone. I graduated in Physiotherapy from the Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele in 2015. I later completed a Master’s degree in Sports Physiotherapy at the Università di Pisa in 2018.

During my university years, I practiced track and field with fairly good results. I competed for five years in the 100m and 200m, and for one year I also trained and prepared for the 400m.

My first professional experience was at the Policlinico San Donato, where I worked in the cardiology department. This specific field has always been of great interest to me, as I see a close connection between cardiac load management and aerobic/anaerobic thresholds in the context of sports performance.

I began working in professional football in 2017, when I started collaborating with the youth academy of Inter Milan, alongside my great passion for track and field, where I initially worked both as a coach and as a physiotherapist.

I reconnected with scientific literature—after first learning how to consult and interpret it during my university years—during the COVID period, when I started a YouTube channel with the aim of sharing selected readings and reflections on the main musculoskeletal conditions commonly encountered in clinical practice.

The year 2023 marked an important turning point in my career: I ended my professional relationship with Inter Milan and decided to focus full-time on athletics and scientific research, which has always been one of my main interests since my university years.

Currently, I collaborate with Athletic Elite, a track and field club based in Milan, and I am actively involved in scientific research, specifically focusing on injury risk profiling and hamstring muscle injuries.

Regarding injury risk profiling, injury surveillance and the identification of risk factors, I published two articles in 2025 in collaboration with the staff of Powerset:

Genovesi F, Tabone M, Nuara S, Pasquali E, Rossi A, Perali A, Bongiovanni T. Injury risk profile for soccer players: identification of the risk factors for soccer-related injuries - an umbrella review. Res Sports Med. 2025 Jul-Aug;33(4):385-411. doi: 10.1080/15438627.2025.2467867.
